South Korean author Han Kang has won the prestigious Man Booker International prize for her book The Vegetarian, sharing the £50,000 prize with her British translator Deborah Smith. A few interesting facts about Deborah Smith: she started learning Korean at the age of 21 (she is currently 27) and at that time she had no connection with Korean culture. Her choice of a language was very rational and logical – Deborah noticed that there were only a few Korean-English translators. She began her translating career after being commissioned on Twitter. Is she a new face of our industry? She is young, rational, with a high level of social media-awareness and excellent target language skills. She’s got it all. And her name is on the book’s cover next to the author’s name. https://www.amazon.com/Vegetarian-Novel-Han-Ka…/…/1846275628
